Newborn, Postpartum and Breastfeeding Support
Postpartum care begins the moment the baby is born. All necessary care, exams,
and tests are done while your little one is in your arms or safe beside you
in the bed. You decide what procedures such as eye ointment and Vitamin K injection
are best for youir baby. Should you choose newborn immunizations (Hepatitis
B), hearing testing or circumcision you will be referred to the appropriate
care provider as they are not available at the Oaks House.
We know that continuity of care is an important part of midwifery care that
doesn’t end with the birth. The first few days and weeks at home are
very important transition times and we continue to care for you and the baby.
We provide two to three visits in the first three week to monitor the mothers
healing, emotional well-being and challenges of having a new baby in the house.
We also want to ensure successful breastfeeding and growth of the baby.
The final six-week check-up is a chance to discuss breastfeeding and any issues
such as returning to work or family planning and fertility awareness as well
as a share photos of the birth and give us time to cuddle your newborn.
