Preconception Counseling
The preconception visit can be the single most important thing a woman can
do for the health of her baby. If you are hoping to become pregnant, we recommend
that you have a preconception visit three months before conceiving. This gives
you time to focus on the lifestyle changes you need to make before becoming
pregnant.
This visit includes a comprehensive review of your health history and current
health status, nutrition, exercise, body weight, and lifestyle issues. A physical
exam and pap test are offered if needed, along with any other necessary testing.
You will also learn about fertility awareness and charting your cycles.
Preconception visits are particularly helpful for women with irregular menstrual
cycles, since simple lifestyle changes and complementary therapies can help
your cycle become regular and aid in conception.
Conducted in our warm, home-like environment, the preconception visit with
our midwife helps set the stage for a healthy pregnancy.
